The Iconic is at the heart of our creations, as it is of our stories. Today, we're featuring Léon , our new cargo pants, a statement piece that's a natural fit for our wardrobe. Functional, bold, steeped in history, and very modern—it has everything you need.
While cargo pants have been a staple in our wardrobes since the 1990s, their history begins much earlier. They were born in the 1930s, within the British army, at a time when uniforms had to rhyme with efficiency. Durable, practical, and designed for action, they belong to the large family of battle dress , the utilitarian garments worn by the troops of the Empire and the Commonwealth.
The oversized pockets are a functional choice, allowing soldiers to keep tools and ammunition close at hand. Nothing is left to chance.
Young people embraced it in the 80s and 90s, making it a symbol of style and freedom. Cargo pants became the uniform of dancers, artists, and free spirits. In the 2000s, they were everywhere: on the catwalks and in music videos, from R&B divas to underground skaters.
It was also at this time that designers took hold of it. Jean Paul Gaultier, Ralph Lauren, Helmut Lang, and later Balenciaga and Givenchy reinterpreted the cargo jacket in their collections. Pharrell Williams and more recently Rihanna and Kanye West have made it a cult piece, combining street attitude, military function and stylistic audacity.
With Léon , we remain faithful to the essence of cargo: a piece with a rich history and a strong style. A well-thought-out comeback, for an era that needs more than ever clothes made to last without ever getting tired of them!
